The only polo riding school in Accra.
Season 2026 to 2027.
The Accra Polo Club Polo Academy is the only riding school in Accra where every lesson is built around polo. From your very first time in the saddle, you are learning to ride the way polo players ride, with balance, feel, and purpose. The goal from day one is to get you game ready.
You will learn on the historic grounds of the Accra Polo Club, established in 1902 and one of the oldest sporting venues in the country. This is where some of the best polo in West Africa has been played for over a century. When you ride here, you are part of something that matters.
The academy is a growing, welcoming community. Students of every age and background ride together, progress through the levels together, and come together at the end of every block for a gymkhana, a festive, friendly competition where riders show what they have learned and have a great time doing it.
Playing polo well is about 70% skilled horsemanship. The rest comes down to technique, knowing the rules, and staying safety aware. We build the foundation that lets everything else click into place.
The academy runs in three ten-week blocks across the season, with small groups of no more than four riders per lesson so every student gets real attention. Lessons run Tuesday to Sunday, morning and afternoon. Monday is the horse rest day, no lessons. Students who put in the work can progress all the way to playing polo at a competitive level alongside the club's players.
Lead Instructor, Accra Polo Club Polo Academy
Bilal brings a depth and breadth of horsemanship experience that is genuinely rare in the region. His teaching is rooted in the belief that great polo starts in the saddle long before it starts on the field. He develops riders from the ground up, literally, beginning with how you handle, read, and connect with a horse before a mallet ever enters the picture.
Under Bilal's instruction, riders progress through a curriculum that moves from the basics of balance and posture all the way through to gallop control, stick and ball, and competitive chukker play. He adapts his approach to every rider: patient and methodical with beginners, technically demanding with advanced students.
Bilal has coached riders who have gone on to compete at club level at the Accra Polo Club. His students are some of the most capable young riders in the country.
Every rider is assessed and placed into the right level at the start of each block. Progression is based on readiness, not time. When you are ready to move up, you move up.
Goal: Develop confidence, safety, and balance while learning the fundamentals of riding and horse handling.
Goal: Build control, rhythm, and confidence at the canter while introducing polo fundamentals.
Goal: Achieve full control, coordination, and skill integration at higher speeds, preparing for competitive polo play.
Three ten-week blocks, each ending with a gymkhana. The academy runs around the club's tournament calendar so polo always comes first. Monday is the horse rest day, no lessons on Mondays.
